What do you do, and how did you get to where you are now?
I own a men and women’s clothing boutique in Hudson. I grew up in Belgium helping my parents with their clothing shop, then became a buyer for my brother’s shop in Belgium. Twenty two years ago, I opened my own shop, de Marchin at 620 Warren Street, which focuses on European designers.
What do you love about what you do?
I love fashion. Although good taste is constant, people dip into fashion to reflect their current moods and society’s trends. I enjoy meeting people and helping them to create with fashion something that represents them well…something they adore.
What’s the thing about Hudson that made you say, wow, I want to be here?
Variety and sophistication. The hodgepodge of artists, races, economic levels, sexual orientation, nature and architecture….coupled with east coast drive and intellectualism.
What’s the most wonderful—or weirdest—thing that you’ve experienced in Hudson?
I love the parades down Warren Street, which happen way too often for every reason imaginable.
If there’s one thing a visitor has to experience before they leave, what is it?
A short trip to Olana, just outside of Hudson. Olana was the home of Frederick Church, a painter from the Hudson River School. The grounds are perfect for hiking…scenic and breathtaking.
If there were a Hudson cocktail, what would be in it, and why?
A pink cosmo with enough Vodka to make one blush.
What’s your favorite season in Hudson, and what makes it special?
Spring because everything comes back to life, the daffodils, crocuses, tulips….and Summer is on its way.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend in and around Hudson?
Staying at a romantic B&B, strolling down Warren Street, having a delicious meal.
What is your favorite event here, and what makes it great?
Winter Walk on a beautiful December night, filled with festivity, carolers, can can dancers, hot cider, bell ringers and shopping!
