Join us for an afternoon tour and making workshop with artist and creator of Townsend Pastels, Diane Townsend. After finding pigments in an alleyway in New York City and an ancient Etruscan “recipe” for making pastels in 1971 – her life changed forever. Townsend has created an Olana line of pastels inspired by the colors Frederic Church carefully mixed, painted, and used throughout the Main House inspired by the colors he saw during his travels to the Middle East (this line is exclusively for sale in Olana’s Museum Store). In this program, Townsend will lead participants on an abridged guided “color” tour of the inside the Main House at Olana, followed by a pigment and pastel art-making lesson. All materials provided. Reserve your own Olana pastel set for purchase ($110). Tea and cake will be served. Visitor Center for abridged house tour, then to Wagon House for art-making.
