The Oldtone Roots Music Festival returns for the 4th year to The Cool Whisper Farm. The three stage festival offers traditional music performances, dances, workshops, contests, and children’s activities. The founders’ goal is to preserve American Roots music and dance with an intimate and interactive festival that includes opportunities to engage with main stage artists in workshop settings. Jamming in the campground late into the night is encouraged. In the evenings attendees and artists dance under a tent that perches over the rolling upstate NY farm valley– a spectacular view.

The festival features local food and craft and vintage vendors. Oldtone organizer Matt Downing stated; “The food this year is going to be great. We’ve got some of the best Hudson Valley and Berkshire County Farm-to-table vendors, and great stuff for children.”

The performing artists in the Oldtone 2018 line-up are making waves in the roots music world today. Oldtone selects artists devoted to making the most traditional elements in Old-Time music fresh, relevant and exciting while maintaining the traditional, sound, feel, style, and storytelling elements of Cajun, Bluegrass, Stringband, Jug band, Ragtime, Swing Jazz, New Orleans Jazz, and more.

“This was a great festival full of tremendous music and talent. I have a feeling this is what Fincastle felt like in ’65. Not the types of music, but the raw, down to earth feel. . . .” C.J Lewandowski (Po’ Ramblin’ Boys)

“Foghorn Stringband, Bill & The Belles and Anna & Elizabeth are highly anticipated performers this year. Their unique sensibilities with a traditional connection is what makes this music appeal to such a wide audience” Says organizer “Cowboy” Jim Wright. Other highlights this year include the old-time banjo prodigy “Little” Nora Brown, old-time blues artist Hubby Jenkins (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Creole artist Cedric Watson, well known upright bass player Mike Bub, and returning favorites Jesse Lege & Bayou Brew, The Downhill Strugglers, Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show, and the Feinberg Brothers.

Oldtone Productions also produces a series of local concerts and dances under the “Oldtone Native” name, and the team has two new projects, a Roots, Rock, and Honky Tonk one day festival on July 28: SuperTone, and the June 9th Northeast Fiddlers’ Convention at Hancock Shaker Village.
