First Look: The Art of Killin' It: An Immersive Whodunit Comes to Park Theater Hudson

The Art of Killin’ It— an immersive and interactive murder mystery that’s making its upstate debut at Park Theater Hudson this weekend— draws its influences from such diverse sources as Clue, Key & Peele, Sleep No More, online culture, hip-hop, and true crime podcasts.

The experience ultimately evokes a classic murder mystery dinner theater, but with a healthy dash of contemporary pop culture and live comedy.

Having already had a successful multi-month run in Brooklyn, show creators Jordon Waters and Stephanie Marrow bring their hands-on murder mystery to an upstate audience for the first time with two nights of performances right on Warren St. in Hudson.

Waters and Marrow pose the question, “How many murder mysteries have you seen that feature people of color?” Not many, and so with Killin’ It, they’ve created a narrative that star BIPOC actors, and which proves to audiences that they, too, can be “witty and powerful, but without the evidence of trauma.”

The setup goes like this: when the album release party for a big time influencer turned rapper at the fictional Hardigan Manor turns deadly, the audience members (here, assuming the roles of party guests) must follow the clues and discover who the killer is before it’s too late. Audiences will get to enjoy part exploration game, part live comedy and musical performance, all rolled into one killer party.

Enjoy a trailer of the show below, and experience this immersive whodunit for yourself, Friday or Saturday night, at Park Theater Hudson.
