What do you do, and how did you get to where you are now?

Flowerkraut is a non-traditional, full service florist specializing in seasonal, locally grown flowers and whimsical, wildflower-inspired designs. We make custom bouquets and arrangements for collection and local delivery, provide wedding and event services, and sell blooms by the stem. Alongside florals, we have a large selection of houseplants, handmade gifts, ceramics, soaps, incense, and other curiosities. Last but not least, we stock the full range of Sauerkraut Seth’s lacto-fermented sauerkrauts, pickles and kim chee, alongside Poor Devil hot sauce – all certified organic and produced right here in Hudson.

What do you love about what you do?

We are a small business supporting other small businesses (many of them women-owned), including but not limited to our flower farmers, vegetable growers, ceramicists, illustrators, candle makers and other handmade vendors. Bringing a pop of color, fresh greenery, or thoughtful handmade object in to other people’s spaces is what we do best (not to mention augmenting any dish with delectable fermented foods, and providing beneficial probiotics to your diet!)

What’s the thing about Hudson that made you say, wow, I want to be here?

Hudson is surrounded by a rich agricultural community, so sourcing beautiful flowers here is nothing short of a pleasure – and there is a thriving wedding industry to support us too! Beyond that, the area is populated by a multitude of artists, musicians, small business owners, makers, designers, influencers and food appreciators of all shapes and sizes, with a certain affluence and appreciation in the general population to support that sphere of commerce.

What’s your favorite season in Hudson, and what makes it special?

I really like Fall – there’s something magical about a slight chill in the air, the feeling of Summer dissipating, and a walk or drive in the general area is punctuated with gorgeous color-filled views and floating leaves. A trip to Olana or walk over the Rip Van Winkle bridge would be great at that time of year, or cozy up for a quick getaway and check out all things Hudson – beautiful accommodation, good food, great shopping, and slightly quieter streets than high Summer.
